Holy Week Begins Now – your place is ready
Dear Parish Family,
To everyone who has been faithfully walking Lent and every Sunday with us at Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen — thank you. Your presence week after week has made this season rich and real.
And to everyone who calls this parish home in whatever way — whether you come on the great feasts like Easter and Christmas, for baptisms, funerals, or weddings, carry our Italian heritage in your heart, are new to the area, or are curious again after time away — your Holy Week is here.
There is a place for you in our parish story. I would like to personally invite each and every one of you to help write a page in the 2026 Holy Week journey.
Let’s walk it together.
Begin the Journey (Today!)
An Evening With the Lord
Friday, March 27 at 7:00 PM
Live music featuring Contemporary Christian Music by Alverlis, Passion reading together. Sing along or sit in quiet adoration.
This is the perfect first step if you want Holy Week gently—no pressure, just you and Jesus.
Palm Sunday
March 29
Let’s meet one another at 10:00 AM – Court Street and 3rd Place, next to The Painted Swan (parishioner-owned!).
Join St. Mary Star of the Sea parishioners. Receive palms, process together back to church for 10:15 AM Mass.
Walk With Jesus Through His Passion
Holy Thursday – The Lord’s Supper
April 2 at 7:00 PM
Mass followed by Adoration from 8:00 PM until 11:00 PM at the side altar of the Sacred Heart.
Beautifully decorated to evoke the garden — Jesus at the top of the steps, we keep Him company below, just as His friends did in Gethsemane.
Good Friday
April 3
3:00 PM – Passion of Christ & Veneration of the Cross
Join Jesus’ final words from the Cross, then approach the Cross yourself in silent prayer.
7:00–9:00 PM – Good Friday Procession
Meet at the church. Our nearly 100-year tradition—Cristo Morto and Our Lady of Sorrows walk the Via Dolorosa through our streets, just as our ancestors did in Italy for centuries.
Everyone welcome. Italian, Spanish, Filipino, Latin American, African—every culture carries a Good Friday Procession. This tradition is yours to honor. Bring your heritage, family, heart.
9:00 PM – Italian Good Friday Service
Beautiful prayers in Italian—reconnect with roots or discover ancient beauty. Did you know? Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen is an Italian National Church.
Celebrate the Resurrection
Holy Saturday – Easter Decorating Party
11:00 AM
Everyone welcome—transform the church into God’s earthly paradise. New faces, returning friends, families, couples, singles. Meet people, contribute, belong.
Everything hides behind our enormous sanctuary veil—a “fast for the eyes”—until…
The Great Easter Vigil
8:00 PM
Darkness to blazing light. Veil drops, full chorus proclaims “Christ is Risen!” Alleluia shakes the rafters.
No one in Brooklyn does it like this.
Easter Sunday Masses
8:30 AM & 10:15 AM
Picture the church bathed in sunlight, surrounded by vibrant flowers, with Easter candles casting a warm glow across the golden sanctuary.
“He is risen indeed!” echoes as families fill the pews. Perfect for family photos, Instagram moments, your joyful first step back—or victory lap with your parish family.
Feast Days This Week
We’ve saved you the combing and handpicked 7 saints and Feast Days for this week. Let their courage, compassion, and hidden holiness light your week ahead. Each digital Saint Spotlight is created just for our parish to pray with, share, and be inspired by each day.

Tea with Monsignor Massie
What “Stones” Are Blocking Your New Life This Lent?
azarus walked out of the tomb, but Msgr. Massie reminds us: Jesus first had to command, “Remove the stone.” That’s where our Lenten journey begins as e well—clearing away whatever distracts us from Christ.
This Fifth Sunday reflection weaves together Ezekiel’s promise of God’s Spirit breathing new life, St. Paul’s assurance of our future resurrection, and Jesus’ question to Martha: “Do you believe I am the resurrection and the life?” Faith like hers grows through friendship with Jesus, preparing us for Baptism and beyond.
